I love The Velveteen Rabbit. I don’t think I had heard of it before my daughter was born and someone gave it to us as a shower gift. The best part of it is the skin horse explaining becoming real.
“Generally by the time you are Real, ost of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once your are Real, you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.”
If I could just get a real hold on THAT vision. So, I’ve been reading Simple Abundance, per usual and found some lovely nuggets…
“There once was a mighty queen with a short fuse [gee that sounds familiar!] The season of daylight diminishes and the time of darkness increases. But the true Light is never extinguished by the natural world, and it is the same in your soul… This too shall pass. [The most lovely words in scripture!]”
“Ask often: “What do you need at this moment? What would bring you peace, contentment, joy? It may be to slow down, take a walk, hug a child, caress a cat. Flip through a magazine. Call your sister. Send a funny card to a friend. Take a nap. Order Chinese carryout. Watch a favorite movie. Have a good cry. Find a drugstore with an old fashioned fountain that serves cherry phosphates. Solve an English mystery. Turn in early. Dream. Fantasize. Pray.”
Off to substitute for seminary. Scripture study is such a great way to start the day!
