The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this book!  I tend to shy away from books that hit the best seller lists figuring that they’re too intellectual or too insipid to bother with (generally not true at all, but there it is).  In any event, I found this on the library swap cart at work and opened it to the first page to read and was hooked.  To quote a review I read:

The characters are all wonderful–you can’t help but wishing you’d known them yourself–even Adelaide Addison.

I’ve been on a real WWII occupation reading binge this year (okay 2 1/2 books count as a binge if it’s a subject you generally never touch).  This was just beyond words.  I want to visit Guernsey now!  It’s part of England, but actually sits very close to France.

Guernsey is the island with the push pins. England is that block of green to the north and France just to the South.

Just checked the rates and I could fly economy for $1800 round trip or first class for $18,000.  Guess it’ll be a little bit before I visit Guernsey…  In the meantime, if you haven’t read the book — read it!
