Hmong

That’s the language Matthew will be learning in the Missionary Training Center (MTC) of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (the Mormons) when he leaves home on December 6th.  We’re pretty excited.  He’ll be serving in the California Roseville mission (just outside Sacramento, CA and north).  I am soooo happy that he’ll be stateside and just as happy that he’ll be learning a language.  Serious coolness!

Two beautiful Hmong sisters from Menasha, Wisconsin in elaborate Hmong clothing shortly before performing a beautiful dance in Appleton at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Sept. 24, 2004.I of course hopped on line and started reading everything I could find about the Hmong people.  They are from China and Vietnam and most that migrated here are refugees from Vietnam for helping America.  One of the most informative sites I’ve found was Jeff Lindsay’s.  He mostly deals with the Hmong in Minnesota, but a lot of the information is generic.  Read it here.  http://www.jefflindsay.com/Hmong_tragedy.html

I had a friend serve there, but English speaking! He loved it! Hooray for Matthew!

  2. MOM! is he flying out on the 6th? when does he get out here? I need to figure out a ride down there to see him!

    • If you don’t catch him before he gets into the MTC you won’t be able to see him for two years… It looks like he’ll fly out on the 6th so he’ll be there in time for the 7th. We haven’t worked out the details yet.
