Rabbit, Hatchworth and The Spine
So… at the ripe old age of 52 I’ve decided to become a groupie… The Muppet introduced me to Steam Powered Giraffe (SPG) and I’m totally hooked. I really need to get out more! So, I spent a chunk of the last few days soaking up SPG on You Tube. They crack me up. I can’t really categorize their music — kind of like Phoebe Snow. Not to say they sound Anything like Phoebe Snow, but the same way I have a hard time fitting her into a category, I can’t really fit them into a category.
They are a musical pantomime troupe. Don’t ask just go check out their videos Honeybee and Diamonds (Rihanna cover) you’ll get it. So the “robots” in the band consist of twin brothers, David Michael Bennett who plays “The Spine,” Christopher Bennett who plays “Rabbit” and Sam Luke who plays “Hatchworth” and then there are their humans, Steve (their sound engineer), Matt Smith (drummer) and Michael Reed (who plays about a million instruments).
They are just all so funny and truly nice to their fans, which sadly is becoming more and more rare, and you really feel as though it will last through them becoming “big.” Okay, and Irene Adler was right, “brainy is the new sexy.” You know how I love smart AND funny. Sigh… So, I was watching one of their one hour You Tube videos which are generally pretty funny and Christopher had a great idea.
The backstory behind the band is that they were robots created by the Walters family way back when. So, his idea was to build the Walter Manor. Essentially a façade for a theater. It opens into a large foyer with a café off to one side and a museum type room on the other side with SPG paraphernalia. It sounded like such a great idea that if I win the lottery, I’m so going to offer them the money to build it (in exchange for permanent great seats).
So my newest music crush.
So… I’m thinking I might need to move my blog to a new home. I can’t seem to upload my photos and have several other issues… Do all of these blog sites do this? Any suggestions on other blog sites?
so… the sad news is that we won’t be going to Italy for our 25th anniversary this year. Sad, but true. I have not given up hope of going sometime in the near future (less than five years), it just won’t be this year….
So, the alternative… the Elizabethtown tour.
I can’t believe it’s been over 10 days since I last wrote! Wow. Okay, well moving in… What’s new in Jenny’s world? Let’s see the work thing is about the same. I had a LOVELY Valentine’s day though. My friend Pauline was celebrating her 50th and we went to see “Divas” at the Palace Theater. As the company I works for is a supporter of the theater they were given free passes to the dress rehearsal. It was amazing and I actually hope that I get a chance to go see it again before it leaves. It’s worth paying for, undoubtedly. Gorgeous voices on the women.
So then, I get home to find this…
I have the sweetest honey in the world! Even after 26 years he’s still got it!
I hope you spent time with someone you love, whether it was mother father sister brother friend or lover.
I did put an “s” on the end didn’t I? Well okay, here’s one I haven’t seen yet, but I’m crazy excited about…
So, I went off to see Lincoln yesterday. I had planned on waiting for the DVD, but I’m glad I didn’t after all. Wow. Powerful movie. I can see why it won awards. I have to say though I preferred Tommy Lee Jones character over Daniel Day Lewis’ Lincoln. Both were splendid. I almost wish I hadn’t watched the featurette as they pointed out Sally Fields is 10 years older than Daniel Day Lewis, but Mrs. Lincoln was 10 years younger than Abe. I kept noticing… I have to say I was intrigued enough with the story line (fixated primarily on the passing of the 13th Amendment) that I would now like to read the book, “Team of Rivals.”
I would also like to learn more about Thaddeus Stevens. Such is the talent of Tommy Lee Jones.
